A Newington manufacturer could lead to the small town outside Portsmouth becoming home to a building tall enough to rival the town’s power plant or the control tower at the Pease International Tradeport.
According to the Portsmouth Herald, Wilcox Industries is exploring whether to build a 12-story addition to its current 5-story headquarters.
The company designs and makes tactical equipment for the U.S. military and law enforcement, starting with its first in 1993: a laser sight for handguns. That line of work means its business is growing, the company told the Herald.
The company wouldn’t use all of the 12-story building, it indicated, and might also be interested in attracting a manufacturing trade school to the building.
Above-ground parking, amenities and events space would also take up floors in the tower.
Final plans haven’t yet been filed with Newington officials, but preliminary consultations have begun between Wilcox Industries and the town Planning Board.
