The Merrimack Paves Way for Trail

Merrimack County Savings Bank announced it has given $10,000 to the Friends of the Merrimack River Greenway Trail.

The nonprofit is working to develop a recreational trail along the Merrimack River in Concord.

“We thank The Merrimack for their generous donation and for being one of our first supporters,” Dick Lemieux, president of the Friends of the Merrimack River Greenway Trail, said in a statement. “We’re excited to get to work on the next section of trail, which will be located along the river in the field behind the Post Office.”

Construction on this segment is anticipated this year. Once complete, the section of trail will extend from the northern end of the wetland in Terrill Park to the cornfields off Loudon Road, with plans in the works to turn that land into a sunflower farm. The final, paved trail is intended to run 13 miles, from Pembroke to Boscawen, without running on streets.

“We’re pleased to be able to support the Friends of the Merrimack River Greenway Trail in connecting our communities,” Linda Lorden, president of The Merrimack, said in a statement. “The trail provides a year-round recreational outlet that’s accessible to everyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors.”
