Chinburg Pitches 145 Apartments at Fire-Ravaged Mill

Chinburg Properties wants to turn the abandoned Great Falls Bleachery and Dye Works at 200 Main St. in Somersworth into its next multifamily development.

The local developer, whose senior development manager Paul Goodwin is also a Somersworth city councilor, brought the planned development before the city Planning Board March 20 where it received positive reviews, according to Foster’s Daily Democrat.

The company’s conceptual plan will now be finalized before being submitted for more detailed review.

Company owner Eric Chinburg bought the ex-mill 20 years ago in the hopes of redeveloping the site, which was ravaged by a 10-alarm fire caused by vandals in 2019. The blaze left only a few of the original mill buildings standing.

The five-acre site sits near downtown Somersworth.
