A community center built in honor of the late PROCON executive Mark Stebbins just landed another large donation.

The Mark Stebbins Community Center, in Manchester’s West Side, is planned to hold a Boys & Girls Club and a location of an Amoskeag Health clinic and offer before- and after-school care, healthcare and a food pantry.

The 20,000-square-foot project is slated to open later this year and serve a neighborhood that has one of the city’s more concentrated pockets of poverty.

The $250,000 donation to the center came from Catholic Medical Center earlier this month.

“Manchester’s West Side is home to a quarter of our city’s population, yet so many families here face significant challenges from higher levels of poverty to limited access to essential resources and services,” hospital CEO John Skevington said in a statement. “This project reflects our focused commitment to strengthening communities by making childcare and healthcare more accessible and affordable for families.”

Stebbins, for whom the facility is named, died unexpectedly in 2021.

“This center represents Mark’s vision to bring several nonprofits under one roof to serve the community and provide much needed services to families and children on the West Side,” Stebbins’ widow, Sally Stebbins, said in a statement.
