Developers are proposing to build 51 units of housing next to a small retail plaza at a major intersection in southern Portsmouth.

The plaza, approved in 2017, features a Rite Aid pharmacy and a Five Guys fast food restaurant and sits at the corner of Lafayette Road and Peverly Hill Road. According to preliminary plans presented to the Portsmouth Planning Board on June 27, the development would be built in two phases and would feature a mix of townhome- and apartment-style condominiums split among six buildings.

The planned project sits across the street from a large retail plaza anchored by a Market Basket, and a Cumberland Farms gas station.
