The Laconia City Council gave its initial approval to a proposal to regulate short-term rentals in the Lakes Region community.
The proposal still must go through a public hearing and final vote on Dec. 9, according to the Laconia Daily Sun.
The core of the proposal would ban short-term rentals made through services like Airbnb in homes where the owner did not live. The proposal defines “short-term rental” as one lasting between one and 14 consecutive nights. Properties would have to be registered once every two years.
