Hampton RE/MAX broker Daniel Twombly has been placed under investigation by Attorney General John Formella’s office following allegations of serious violations of state real estate law.
Twombly was principal broker at NE Coast to Country Realty Investments, RE/MAX Insights and RE/MAX On the Move.
The Real Estate Commission issued an emergency order suspending Twombly’s principal broker license on March 11 and put Coast to Country into receivership after receiving complaints that Twombly might be misappropriating money held in an escrow account required to close a transaction.
Twombly has since entered into a voluntary preliminary agreement to not practice as a principal broker until the state’s investigation is concluded.
The preliminary agreement alleges that Twombly had not paid commissions to his agents in either January or February and had been slow in paying commissions as early as October 2022.
Formella’s office said March 29 that it was “actively investigating” the complaints.
Formella’s office said it believes Coast to Country’s records show Twombly failed to pay more than $250,000 in commissions to agents and then, after the Real Estate Commissions’ emergency order, authorized transactions on one of the brokerage’s escrow accounts and tried to prevent the commission from auditing any of Coast to Country’s escrow accounts.
