Manchester-based PROCON has been honored with a top award from a major national construction industry trade group.
Associated Builders and Contractors gave the company its Excellence in Construction Eagle Award and its National Design-Build Award at the group’s national convention March 16.
The former award is presented to 82 of the nation’s top construction projects in 2022. The latter is a special recognition given to Eagle Award recipients who are particularly efficient in their design-build work.
“We are deeply honored and humbled to receive this very special award,” PROCON Managing Director John Stebbins said in a statement. “It is a tribute to the talented and hardworking men and women we work with daily, who offer our clients exceptional projects and innovative ideas.”
PROCON was honored for its work on the Joyce Cummings Center at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. PROCON designed and built the 150,000-square-foot, 7-story academic building, which houses classrooms, seminar rooms, meeting space, research labs, offices and a 160-seat auditorium.
Judges chose PROCON due to the design’s sustainability components, sustainability components of the preconstruction process and the complex coordination during the build, which included working with the university, utility companies, and Greater Boston’s subway system, whose tracks run right next to the Joyce Cummings Center.
“This was not an easy project. From contract negotiations through to commissioning and COVID in between, this project threw everything AND the kitchen sink at us. This award is a testament to the vision of the Cummings Family, the partnership of Tufts University, and the talent, perseverance and hard work of the PROCON team and our incredible subcontractors,” PROCON Managing Director Jen Stebbins Thomas said in a statement. “This is a first-class, cutting-edge facility for one of the top academic institutions in the world – something we will be proud of for years to come.”
