The rebuild of the Hampton Beach Casino is still on, but it won’t be happening this year.
The Casino Ballroom has been rolling out summer concert announcements this winter, confirming that developer Sal Lupoli’s plan to tear down the tired venue and replace it with a new, bigger complex won’t happen until after its 100th birthday.
“We’ve got 99 seasons, but this ain’t the last one,” the Casino Ballroom said in a press release that confirmed “the Ballroom is very much open and rocking.”
Shows planned for the summer will include Melissa Etheridge, Bret Michaels and 1990s pop-punk band Yellowcard.
An ambitious rebuild of the storied casino complex was formally approved by Hampton officials in November.
Plans for the $400 million to $600 million complex include a 208-room hotel, 99 condominiums, nearly 40,000 square feet of restaurants and shops, a larger charitable gaming casino, a 3,500-person entertainment and conference venue and a 732-spot parking garage.
The Portsmouth Herald reported, citing a statement from The Lupoli Companies, that following local approval the complicated project has advanced to refining the project’s engineering, design and the timing of construction.
The Casino Ballroom is likely to be open at least through summer 2027, the statement said, to avoid disruptions to other local businesses, who are eager for the redevelopment to begin.
