Developers want to add a hotel to Seabrook to a lot just off Interstate 95.
The site at 30 Perkins Ave. is owned by BJs Wholesale Club, which has a store next door that was built at the same time as the proposed hotel site was cleared and primed for development. However, the proposal is being brought by experienced regional hotel developer Dinesh Patel.
The plan, presented to town officials in March for a first look, would see 136 rooms and 136 parking spaces split between a units marketed under a Tru by Hilton brand and units marketed under a Home2 Suites brand, which is geared at extended-stay guests. The latter will also include full kitchens.
The project secured zoning relief for its proposed height one year ago, the Portsmouth Herald reported.
The project faces opposition from local officials over concerns that it would put a strain on town water supplies. The Herald reports local officials claim new wells haven’t been dug for the town system in 30 years, and encouraged Patel to specify flushless urinals and dual-flush toilets for rooms.
