The head of Cambridge Trust Co.’s New Hampshire operations has been named a top community banker in the state.
The New Hampshire Bankers Association awarded Daniel R. Morrison, CEO of Cambridge Trust New Hampshire, its “Community Banker of the Year” award at the recent NH and Vermont Bankers Annual Conference. The announcement was made by Jerry Little, Commissioner of the NH Banking Department and Morrison will be entitled to a lunch with Gov. Chris Sununu at his bank.
Each year, NH Bankers honors a New Hampshire bank employee who has gone beyond the course of ordinary business to help improve the state through civic and community engagement. Recipients are respected industry professionals who have made a significant impact on those around them by inspiring others to become involved in community service.
Morrison founded Optima Bank & Trust, which was sold to Cambridge Trust earlier this year. He was selected for the honor by a panel of leading public officials from the state of New Hampshire, including Senate President Donna Soucy, Speaker of the House Steve Shurtleff and Will Arvelo, director of economic development at the Department of Business and Economic Affairs.
“Receiving New Hampshire’s Community Baker of the Year Award is among the most meaningful awards that I have received,” Morrison said in a statement.
Morrison has been involved with a number of community organizations throughout his career. He was a founding board member of the Seacoast chapter of NH Veterans Count in 2012. He has served as chairman of the board of the American Red Cross, Great Bay Chapter for many years. He has volunteered in many capacities since 2003 for the United Way of the Greater Seacoast, from leading teams of volunteers on the Day of Caring, serving on Community Impact Teams, to becoming a member of the Board of Directors. He is currently vice chairman of the board and a member of the finance committee at York Hospital. Morrison has also been a member of the NH Bankers board for seven years and held the chairmanship from 2017-2018. He has also held positions on the American Bankers Association’s Government Relations Council Administrative Committee, and was past member of Community Bankers Council, with a focus on building personal relationships between the industry and government agencies, advocating on behalf of community banks and the communities they serve.
“We congratulate Dan for this well-deserved recognition, and our applicants considered for this award,” NH Bankers President Kristy Merrill said in a statement. “This year’s nominees reflected 151 years of experience in the banking industry and service to nearly 30 professional and community organization boards and committees. Our nominees are a wonderful representation of the commitment to community service that New Hampshire bankers demonstrate in their work every day.”
At the same ceremony that saw Morrison honored, Lebanon-based Mascoma Bank Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Barry McCabe was named Vermont’s Community Banker of the Year Award. Barry has held his position for 30 years, has 40 years experience in the banking industry and serves his community as a member of the Civil Air Patrol and many other professional and community organizations.
