The last major component of Salem’s Tuscan Village development is underway, with dignitaries and the development team gathering to celebrate the event recently.

State Sen. Chuck Morse, R-Salem, joined developer Joe Faro, members of the Tuscan Brands Real Estate team and staff from design-build firm PROCON for a beam-raising ceremony for the hotel and luxury apartment building that will complete the core of Tuscan Village’s centerpiece, a quarter-mile-long retail and dining street.

The 5-story building will include a 165-room Marriott-operated hotel (branded as “The Artisan Hotel”), 91 luxury apartments with private underground parking, 30,000 square feet of ground-level retail space, a 12,000-square-foot event and function facility, a 10,000-square-foot Tuscan Brands restaurant with outdoor dining, a rooftop bar, and a pool and sun deck.

According to an announcement from PROCON, which is handling the design and construction of the building, delivery is expected in spring 2023.

“We are moving into the downtown right now. This is the first building going up in the downtown. This is sending a symbol to the town of Salem that really does makes a difference, the sense of community, thanks to Joe’s efforts,” Morse said in a statement.

In a statement, Faro thanked public officials for their support of the project.

“Thanks to the tremendous support from the governor, senators, state of New Hampshire, and the town of Salem, we are thrilled to reach this milestone on such a transformative and impactful mixed-use building in the heart of Tuscan Village,” Faro said.  “It’s an exciting time for Tuscan Village and the surrounding communities as our vision for the entire project becomes a reality.”

At full build-out, the Tuscan Village development will total 4 million square feet of retail, housing, office and life science space. The development team has already completed the first phase, anchored by a Market Basket grocery store, and a retail plaza on the development’s south side. A 1.2 million-square-foot office-life science campus is also planned for the portion of the site closest to the Mall at Rockingham Park, and was approved by town officials in October.
