1.9K Homes Proposed in Concord

With the growth of a proposed subdivision on property next to Concord’s local newspaper to 944 units, nearly 2,000 homes across a variety of developments are under consideration by city officials.

The Concord Monitor reported recently that developer New England Family Housing received largely supportive public comments at a recent initial hearing before the city’s Planning Board.

The company has grown its proposal for its 135-acre site north of the city’s downtown to 751 market-rate and workforce housing rental units and 243 condominiums. Also included: a large self-storage site, 100,000 square feet of commercial space and retail space on the ground floor of apartment buildings in a “town square”-type section of the development.

The Onyx Group’s plans to redevelop Concord’s Steeplegate Mall represent the other major share of homes in Concord’s development pipeline. That 600-apartment project was also heard by the Concord Planning Board the same day as New England Family Housing’s, with officials expressing some concern over the lack of green space on the property.
