Tuscan Brands Plans New Portsmouth Restaurant

Restauranteur and developer Joe Faro is planning a new outpost for his Tuscan Brands empire.

Toscana Italian Chophouse & Wine Bar will open this fall at 3 Pleasant St. next door to his company’s Tuscan Market location, which opened last summer.

“Portsmouth is home to one of the most beautiful downtown areas in all of New England, so we couldn’t be more thrilled about the opportunity to share our scratch-made cooking with diners in Market Square,” Faro said in a statement. “We’re very excited to debut Toscana Italian Chophouse & Wine Bar, a steakhouse concept that will be built around signature chops, incredible sides, and of course many of the Italian favorites that our customers have come to expect from us.”

The team handling the restaurant’s overall design includes Taniya Nayak, who is known for her design prowess on HGTV and the Food Network.

Tuscan Brands has been expanding for several years, with one Tuscan Kitchen location in New Hampshire, in Salem, and two in Massachusetts – one in Boston and the other in the wealthy suburb of Burlington. Faro also recently opened Tuscan Sea Grill & Bar in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Faro is also developing the 170-acre Tuscan Village mixed-use project on the site of the old Rockingham Park racetrack in Salem. A consortium of regional banks closed on a $60 million construction loan for the project’s latest phase in April.
